Every year, the Electronic Frontier Foundation publishes a report on major Internet sites and services called “Who Has Your Back”, along with a handy chart summarizing how each company or service deals with government requests for their users’ private information (according to their publicly-posted policies, at least).

The report shows that most companies are moving in the direction of better protection and more transparency about government data requests, compared with previous years — though many popular services still have very problematic policies.
Of course, a company’s policies about providing private data to the government may or may not be indicative of how willing they are to sell your data to other companies, whether they restrict their own employees’ access to it, or how well they protect it from hackers!
